What is PMGSY?

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is a flagship rural road development programme launched by the Government of India on 25 December 2000 under the Ministry of Rural Development. The scheme aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected rural habitations across the country.

PMGSY-I

Introduced rural economic corridors connecting markets, schools, and hospitals.

PMGSY-IV (2024–2029)

Current phase focused on:

  • Connecting remaining eligible habitations

  • Climate-resilient road infrastructure

  • GIS and digital monitoring integration

  • Improved rural mobility in difficult terrains
