What is PMGSY?
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is a flagship rural road development programme launched by the Government of India on 25 December 2000 under the Ministry of Rural Development. The scheme aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected rural habitations across the country.

Key Phases of PMGSY
PMGSY-I
Focused on providing new road connectivity to unconnected villages.
PMGSY-II
Focused on upgradation and consolidation of existing rural roads.
PMGSY-III
Introduced rural economic corridors connecting markets, schools, and hospitals.
PMGSY-IV (2024–2029)
Current phase focused on:
- Connecting remaining eligible habitations
- Climate-resilient road infrastructure
- GIS and digital monitoring integration
- Improved rural mobility in difficult terrains
